Vitamins and Supplements
(and other ramblings)
During and after chemo, I found
myself weak and tired and with various muscle aches, numbness
in my fingers at times, and just a feeling of bone-deep
tiredness. I did some reading and research, and found that
various vitamins and supplements can help with these
symptoms.
L glutamine has been said to help with
the numbness in the fingers. I can't say that it worked or
didn't work really for me, but I've heard that for many people
that have severe numbness, it has worked really well. It's
worth a try for sure.
From everything I have read and studied,
I have narrowed it down to a few things that I take on a daily
basis. First, some sort of nutritional supplement/multivitamin,
but avoid synthetic vitamins. I took Eniva Vibe for several
years, and I liked it, but now I take the whole food
multivitamin recommended by Dr Mercola at mercolal.com. Nothing
synthetic about it and that's why I like it.
I use two other of his products also, the
artcic krill oil (for omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids) and the
Purple Defense for antioxidant effect.
Other than that, I make sure to drink
half my body weight in ounces of water per day without fail,
get 20 minutes or so of sun every day (for the vitamin D), and
I drink raw milk for its health benefits.
With that regimen I feel that I'm keeping
myself very healthy. I think it's also important to eat a
healthy diet of as much raw food as possible. Of course that is
not to say I eat as good as I should all the time. You have to
have a snack once in a while, but stick to the healthy
supplements and you should be fine.
